Improving insurance coverage for older adults

As our aging population rapidly grows, we increasingly focus on questions of how we will care for them. In reality, older adults are active consumers, who are making care and coverage decisions based on their unique health and well-being priorities and goals. I partnered with an insurance company to understand the distinctive needs of the Medicare population — and propose new insurance products and experiences that better support older adults in self-managing their care, increase prevention, and reduce unnecessary, costly utilization.

As Project Lead, I was responsible for all project and client management. In the research phase, I developed and implemented a research plan, interview guide, generative activities, and participatory design studios. I lead semi-structured contextual interviews with 24 older adults, in their homes or in community spaces they frequent.

Following the research phase, we analyzed findings, generated insights, and developed a visionary collection of actionable opportunities to improve the insurance experiences of the Medicare population. We shared these insights in a comprehensive and interactive final report—and encouraged organizational capacity through a series of stakeholder meetings and presentations, all of which I facilitated.
